The Lagos state police command reportedly arrested 42 suspected homosexuals at Vincent Hotel at Weigh bridge in Owode Onirin area of the state. The state Police Command spokesperson, Olarinde Famous-Cole who confirmed the arrest, said the police got information that some homosexuals gather at the hotel and use the place to have sex and conduct wild parties. Acting on the tip-off, the police carried out a raid on the hotel yesterday afternoon and arrested 42 suspected homosexuals. “About 42 suspected homosexuals were arrested and the hotel has been cordoned off while investigation continues. They are in custody of the Lagos State Task Force and will be charged to court soon,” he said Recall that in January 2014, the Goodluck Jonathan administration signed the anti-gay bill into law and proffers a 14-year jailterm for anyone found guilty of committing acts of homosexuality in Nigeria.

On Friday, July 28th, six students of the Lagos Model Scool Igbonla in Epe, Lagos state were rescued by police in Ondo state. They were kidnapped on May 25th and spent 64 days in the kidnappers' den. Some of the students have recounted their ordeal to The Nation. According to one of them, the kidnappers blindfolded them and subjected them to routine beating "We were blindfolded, kept under the bridge with our legs tied. They fed us eba and crayfish soup. They were beating us. They mixed the crayfish with pepper and water and then gave us to eat with Eba. They were giving us red water to drink. The water had a bad taste but no odour. It was polluted. They kept us under a bridge. Just days after becoming the most streamed song in histroy, Malaysia has banned worldwide hit song, " Despacito " on state radio and television, The ban applies only to government-run radio and TV outlets, not to private stations or YouTube or the music streaming services fueling the song's success. Communications Minister Salleh Said Keruak this morning said the song was reviewed and banned because of public complains that the lyrics are obscene. Salleh was also quoted by local media as saying private radio stations should censor the song themselves out of sensitivity to local culture. Not long ago, an Islamic party, Amanah, earlier denounced the song and called for it to be kept off Malaysia's airwaves because many young children were singing it without understanding the words. An Osun State High Court in Osogbo has sentenced a 40 year old man, Kayode Adedeji, to death by hanging for robbing a woman, Omowunmi Adebayo, of N3,420 on April 25th 2009. The prosecuting counsel from the state ministry of justice, Elisabeth Alabi, said the condemned suspect had attacked his victim at her house in Illesa armed with a knife at midnight on the day of the incident. Alabi told the court that the suspect was apprehended by some members of the Oodua Peoples Congress who kept vigil in the area. During his trial, he was granted bail but was re-arrested after committing another offence which led to him being remanded in the Ilesa prison. She ruled that the offence ran foul of the law and punishable under Section 11(2)(A) CAPR II, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004. The presiding judge, Kudirat Akano, found the condemned suspect guilty and ordered that he be killed by hung despite pleas by the defence counsel, Tunde Adedokun, for the court to be lenient and merci...

Veteran actor and TV host, Okey Bakassi, has raised concerns over the alarming rate of drug abuse and its consumption in Nigeria. The stand-up comedian said a majority of illicit drugs consumers are Nigerian celebrities.
